KC Funeral Homes Guide (“KC Funeral Homes,” “we,” “us”) is a free advertising and referral service for families in the Kansas City metro. We are not a licensed funeral establishment. This policy explains what information we collect when you use kansascityfuneralhomes.com, how we use it, who we share and sell it to, and the choices you have.
The short version
We are a lead-referral business. When you submit a request, we sell or share the contact information you provide with one or more local funeral homes so they can contact you directly. That is how our free service works and how we are paid. If you do not want us to sell or share your information, use our Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information page.
Information we collect
- Information you give us: your name, phone number, email address (if provided), and the situation you describe — for example, whether a loss has just occurred, whether you are planning ahead, and any budget or preferences you share.
- Consent records: the date, time, page, and the exact disclosure text you agreed to when you submitted a form, and, where enabled, an independent proof-of-consent certificate (such as TrustedForm).
- Information collected automatically:device type, pages viewed, approximate location, and how you reached the site, collected through cookies and similar technologies (see “Analytics and advertising”).
How we use your information
- To respond to your request and answer your questions.
- To match you with one or more local funeral homes suited to your situation and budget, and to send them your request.
- To follow up with you about your request by phone, text, or email.
- To measure and improve the site and our advertising.
- To keep records of your consent and honor your opt-outs.
How we sell and share your information
When you submit a request, we provide the details you give us to the local funeral home or homes we match you with. Because those businesses pay us for these referrals, this is a “sale” or “sharing” of personal information as some privacy laws (including the California Consumer Privacy Act) define those terms. The funeral homes that receive your information are independent businesses with their own privacy practices; once you are connected, their use of your information is governed by their own policies.
We also use service providers that process information on our behalf — such as email delivery, form-consent certification, analytics, and advertising platforms (including Google Analytics and Google Ads). We do not sell your information to data brokers, and we do not sell information we know to be from anyone under 16.
Your right to opt out of sale or sharing
You can tell us not to sell or share your personal information at any time on our Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information page, or by emailing help@kansascityfuneralhomes.com. We add opted-out contacts to a suppression list so their details are not sent to funeral homes or advertising partners. We also honor the Global Privacy Control (GPC) browser signal as a valid opt-out of sale and sharing for that browser.
Your California privacy rights
If you are a California resident, you also have the right to:
- Know what personal information we have collected, used, sold, or shared about you, and to request a copy.
- Delete personal information we hold about you, subject to legal exceptions.
- Correct inaccurate personal information.
- Opt out of the sale or sharing of your personal information (see above).
- Not be discriminated against for exercising any of these rights.
To exercise these rights, email help@kansascityfuneralhomes.com with the request and the phone number or email you used, so we can verify and locate your records. An authorized agent may submit a request on your behalf with proof of authorization.
Consent to be contacted
Our forms include an unchecked consent box. If you check it and submit, you agree that KC Funeral Homes and the local funeral home or homes we connect you with can contact you by phone, text, or email about your request, including through automated means. Consent is not a condition of any purchase. Message and data rates may apply. Reply STOP to any text to stop texts, or tell us at any time that you no longer wish to be contacted.
Analytics and advertising
We use Google Tag Manager, Google Analytics 4, and Google Ads to measure traffic and the performance of our advertising, and Microsoft Clarity on some pages to understand how the site is used. These tools may set cookies on your device. We use Google Consent Mode: if you decline cookies in our banner, opt out on the Do Not Sell or Share page, or browse with a Global Privacy Control signal, advertising and analytics storage are set to “denied” for your browser. You can also control cookies in your browser settings and opt out of Google's personalized advertising in your Google account settings.
Data retention and security
We keep lead and consent records as long as needed to operate the service, resolve disputes, and meet legal and contractual obligations, then delete them. Suppression-list entries are kept indefinitely so your opt-out stays in force. We take reasonable measures to protect your information, but no method of transmission over the internet is completely secure.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we'll revise the “last updated” date above.
