Questions about cost

Straight answers on money

Why do prices vary so much between funeral homes?

Funeral homes set their own pricing for merchandise (caskets, urns) and facility use, which is the biggest source of variation. Cemetery costs (plot, vault, opening/closing) are usually separate from the funeral home's fees entirely.

Are payment plans available?

Many KC-area funeral homes offer payment plans or financing, especially for pre-need arrangements made in advance. We can point you toward providers who offer flexible terms if cost is a concern.

Does insurance or Medicaid cover funeral costs?

Standard health insurance and Medicare do not cover funeral costs. Some life insurance policies, final expense policies, or union/employer benefits may apply. Veterans may qualify for VA burial allowances — see our veteran benefits guide.

What's the cheapest legal option in Missouri or Kansas?

Direct cremation with no service is the lowest-cost legal option in both states, typically $845–$1,295 in the KC metro. Home funerals and green burial without a vault can also reduce costs where cemeteries allow it.
